For Indians: places to live in Jakarta

This blog is informative for the Indians, who have recently settled in Jakarta.

Lets start informing about the home requirement. Mostly people prefer to stay in Apartments. Some of the areas where Indians are already settled are:

1. Pondo Indah and Permata Hijau: It is in South Jakarta, has a mall near by. Also from the parents point of view there is a school near by - Jakarta International School (JIS). Lots to do in these residential areas. As the apartments have Swimming pools, outdoors and indoors games courts.

2. Kemang is a nice area too but because the roads are so narrow the traffic jam is major problem here.
3. Simprug (very huge Indian community) and
4. Senayan area.
5. Kunningan is another area. You can find most of the Indian Groceries and other such things quite easily here. Malls and markets are nearby and also you can find many expat communities.
6. Taman Rasuna: South Jakarta is a good place and close to Indian restaurants
7. Sudirman Park Apartment

You can also check this link to see various accommodation options in Jakarta - http://latitudes.nu/jakarta-living-costs-accommodation.../

Heights of Madness!!!

Here is a First day of weekend, where we have tons of plans and ready to pack our bags to head to lovely destinations. For me the destination this time is India... Since its been 2 years we have been living here in Jakarta. The feel of India is still intact and alive. However, What I was tempted is to fly down to Delhi my city. My hometown the happening girls and awesum feel of spring.

With all my determination and no second thoughts given or taken, I moved on to explore the air planes and it's fares... to my surprise... they are really too much... we all know how expensive the last minute bookings could end up... but now the temptation was igniting me... So I actually booked the tickets. Yup a huge dent to my hubby's pocket. Ya was so.. so... so tempted to move back and to meet my family- friends and near dear ones that money seems to be secondary affair when it comes to the family and heart affairs!!!

So, all set and done, I got my travel itinerary. My hubby called up as he saw the message of such a huge loss and for him an repairable dent in his account. He was really furious with such spontaneous decision. However, I have not got my packing done yet, neither have I made any food and other arrangements for hubby back there in Jakarta. But the only confirmed thing was that I was heading Delhi - My love....

So I was all prepared to spend a weekend at Delhi. With all the favorite dishes and food at home. I have dreams of all amazing thrilling drives and night outs and gossips, I will be having upon meeting my family. I started calling everyone, to be there at my home when I reach, So that we can thrill and can make a blast this Delhi trip. So I named this trip as a "Spontaneous rocking weekend +Delhi Meri Jaan ".

All done, I was not really bothered about the packing stuff, coz I have back up at home too, so could manage everything if I forget some major stuff in my packing. My blood was all pumping high with BP is such excitement, that I was wishing to leave as immediate as I can, knowing that I have to wait for as long as 8 hrs at the airport. But since I was all done. I was jumping to move out from home. I called up couple of my hubby's friends, to take care of him this weekend. And I told them that I have a urgent family matter to discuss at home. So please manage the stuff with my hubby here. So by now i have all things in place.

I took my luggage and lock the door and head towards the taxi stand, moved in the cab and then called my hubby up saying that I am about to leave. I'm in the taxi and will be reaching airport. and informed him that I have made all the arrangements for you. Fruits and other stuff is in the fridge. Actually half of the shops stuff is already in the fridge, that i shopped for you for this weekend. So please check the fridge before buying anything from the shops.... and my never ending list of advises, does and don't's continued for almost half an hour. And then I asked my hubby you there, He said yes very much. But I just wanted to know why you are leaving at such a short notice. No one from your friends will reach, as everyone has their own commitments... Take some time and plan it out well and then leave. And shouted him back saying yeah... since there has been a lot of money spent on this trip of mine and I didn't asked you before making my plan.. that's the reason you are saying all this. But please i'm not gonna get convinced with all the stuff so you dare not try...

Suddenly I wake up to see that I was dreaming..... ooopss how creakky I was, but you never know the dream could actually comes true one day. And I'm sure of at least one thing that my hubby may not ask me to come back if I went on such an expensive thrilling trip.

In fact, he would love to Bann my dreams too... which could prompt the expensive ideas in me....

While I was all awake only regret I had was " Why I didn't woke up after completion of my dream, why half way down!"

One thing which is not a dream and that was - "I was tempted to go back to my home. Yes I was feeling home sick for sure..."

How hilariously can you define traffic Jams!!!

Ohkkzz.... here I have another thought to jot down, however this time it's on Demand. Yup - Didn't knew that I have a fan following too who would miss me! So here I have "Blog on Demand". Something like song or Dance on Demand, yup it is similar kind of.

The topic is simple, yet let me define it differently. I feel that everyone of you will agree to this that everything associated with the word "Car" require patience. Let me elaborate: Learning to  Drive: First step they tell you is "Have Patience" and when you  have actually brought your little darling vehicle on road.. guess what you have a traffic Jam... So again you need to have patience. However, one thing is worth appreciating about Jakarta drivers and that is they have patience and follow rules. However, it may not be true for some but since I came from India so my comparative mind revolves around that region, so here in Jakarta: I find driver's driving sense logical, patience and rule followers. It is true for 90% of the drivers.

So here I'll be discussing about The Traffic Jams:
Traffic Jam: Well its world wide known irritating word. But yet can't do anything about it. the most lovely of all is that it is getting worse day by day. If traffic jam happen to be Maffia King: he would love his growing familiarity worldwide. Sounds silly, maybe but I have to find some hilarious vent out for my frustrations associated with Traffic jams. when I'm in Jakarta. I just can't take the radio stations and the RJ's conversation happening in Bhasa for digestion. All I do is to yell in my language, making people around feel how it feels when you hear some alien sound in your ears.....Believe me I feel at peace when i'm struck up in traffic jam in India and RJ's speaking non-sense in my national language are nightingales for me...

So, all I can do is check my make-up, perform some corrections here and there. Can do chit chat the typical girly stuff. At times, I take newspaper specially the lifestyle and fashion section, coz the glamour world makes me feel relaxed, composed up-to date and most importantly my time flies by quickly. and when I get bored of reading I switch on my ipod, with the list of peppy song tracks which are my favourite I tune into my music world. At times I introspect about the negativity in me. About something that went wrong and it could be some arguments, so the mind always running the thoughts, so better to track them to figure out what thoughts are meant for trash bin and what should be preserved in your hearts forever and ever.

The picture is equally true for all the major cities in the world the problem remains the same. I wonder why we cant figure out the pooling system in our society. Is it really a matter of pride to move alone or is it that we are reluctant to adjust or adapt. When the problem is created by us i'm sure the we want then we can find the solution to it as well. I always wish that our egos should rest in peace rather than soaring high above us, which hinder the thoughts which are positive and beyond status symbols.

Hey all have a happy Driving and Jamming!!!

Comparative freaks!!!

Ok, let me start by saying that if we are watching someone, or we happen to interact with someone we tend to realize that we are not worthy of XYZ... anything... WHY?

Because during that discussion, someone praised so much about his or her family member, that we realized that that we are no where. And when we come home, we are praising that family, but we forget to find out what is happening in my family. We forget that we have our duties to our family. We have to give time to nurture my family members. Strange but its a fact.

what i only want to convey is that by praising that family so much, we are only demotivating our own family members. Who are so close to our hearts. rather then observing them, what they are doing, rather than being a support in their activities which they perform best. We elaborate tones on others success and in turn keep on cursing our own family.

We went out in a discussion then, this is our leisure time, we have to gossip about certain topics this is our love/ liking but how is it justified that after coming back from that discussion we generate negativity around.

Best suggestion: Spend time with your family, try to understand what they love doing, if they are not aware of their talent, we should help them in finding out what's best in you... Make them blossom in their own way.

think of a situation when we are trying to make our kid same as our friends kid... our kid will be identical to their kid.. what's the difference? we all are unique individuals, we have our own fragrance, same as like every flower has its own fragrance, color, texture, and qualities...

Are we so much obsessed with comparing our own selves or our kids and our family members that we have lost our own individuality???

Something which I loved being in Jakarta was that, "You are you". Your individuality is your own. Noone is bothered about others.

Yes, at times the cultural shift helps you to find answers to things which you have been practicing, following and preaching from years on.. and then you realize no this not the correct way...

Missing you India

India Meri Jaan....!!!!

Missing you my love India so...soo... so.. very much these days.... Especially the Indian flavors: the spices and the variety of Street food. You may find the same food outside India as well but having food on Indian not so very clean streets is sumthing you will never find abroad. So here I am waiting for a long vacation back home, as per the residing country's holiday calendar. Wishing to be back with old friends, for whom you have become 'bare log' or now u are associated with NRI tags... n many such new names will be called for you. Some are happy dat you are abroad and some are not so happy as you are abroad.. or I may say "Jealous". This 'J' factor has its prominence more in India as compared to any other country. Suddenly you become a gossip chapter for aunties in your neighbourhood. Now all your bio-data will be reviewed and analyzed how come you went abroad. There unacceptable sorry sorry,... indigestible reactions will be imagined something like... they had popped in center shock chewing gum.... n the hairs standing straight in upward directions... I feel like saying "Hajmola aunty ji". I brought it from India only...lolzzz...!!!!!!

Well.. well ..jokes apart, but don't your really miss this kind of stuff that you cant find abroad. The life has changed. Now in the new country, struggling to make new friends, friends with sophistication, and discipline. and remembering those old chuddy-buddies back in India, some the gali friends, some office best colleagues, some panwari colleagues or some CP station buddies... n college and school buddies of course. Missing those Indian festive seasons, when the sale is on prominence, and the traffic on roads is endlessly tiring. But still the spirit of festivity is high.. despite of the fact that you will only have one leave to perform all tasks on your list... for a big festive celebration, let it be Diwali, Ganesh chaturthi, dandiya/ garba or Onam in south. Guys will definitely agree with me the fact of watching girls... The Indian girl with salwar/ kameez, or saree or suit or jeans with long hairs and Punjabi chappal or kolapuri chappal....and then observing that this is missing she should wear this or that...

The variety that you find in India in terms of attire or food. It is definitely something which we all should be proud of....

6 Lesser known facts about Jakarta

We all have heard about Jakarta being one of the most beautiful place in the south-east Asian region. Indeed its true. It spellbound you with the beaches, islands and lush greenery around. but there are some of the things which should be considered if you are the one who wishes to stay in Jakarta for a longer duration of time.

1. Healthcare: We all believe in living healthy. However, Jakarta is still gearing up, to prove itself as a good place for healthcare practitioners. There are very few hospitals to take care of super-specialized surgeries. The infrastructure also doesn't support the treatment where high level of care and specialization is involved, for this you are mostly referred to Singapore. It will be good to make a visit to renowned hospitals in the city. get reference from the friends before you decide on to one doctor. I personally feel the language is also one of the major root cause while interaction and explanation. Since there are very few doc who speak English well. So to understand the medical term is tough. and what exactly is the problem. weather its big or small you really need to juggle your head to understand in complete.

But for Pregnancy and delivery the doctors are really good and have expertise, you can trust on them. They don't offer you over medication, doctors have patience while considering your delivery cases.

2. Medicines: Same is the case with the medicines, the salt and the make if the medicine is different what you are using in India (to be specific). Most of the medicines available are of Australian make. its tough for you to find salt with similar name. even on Google you have to spin your head to find something that is recognizable for you. better is to take medication, which is prescribed by the doctor there. coz if you are one of those who is keen to know the exact medicine name, or a self medication person, then I suggest, you carry your own medicines with you.

3. Expats have tough time finding jobs: There are only few areas where Indonesia welcome expatriates as there employee. their first preference is to give job to their own people. Also locals will be cheaper as compared to expatriates. if you are transferred from your parent company to Indonesia then its all favorable. coz then you will  be provided with a accommodation in a posh area of Jakarta and other allied benefits too will be granted. in other case, if you are looking for job without any base or network or reference, then you should be ready to rub your shoes really hard.
Tip: If you can be expert of their language "Bahasa" then you have 50% more chances for getting selected for job.
However, if you want to have your business then you have chances of being successful, but again not so easy. you need to understand the market scenario, develop a strategy for yourself and then step forward.

4. The Muslim religion is followed by 80-90% of the population. However, you will find people wearing western attire, I'm talking about females here. the culture and society is very much open. Jakarta is a place where you will find people from whole world living peacefully. So don't be afraid just by hearing that it's a Muslim country.
For food it will be tough if you are a veggie. It's mostly the non-veggie food which is available in abundance.

5. Female dominating: I  have seen most of the females in Jakarta who are practical, laborious and are independent, in comparison to the male counter parts. Females are focused and dedicated.  Moreover while marriage, its the girl's family who dominates the boy's family. something absolutely different than what we found in Indian society.

6. Indonesian girls adore expat riches: Yes, something which is good for expat males is that, its easy to lure a Indo girl. If you are wealthy and decent looking. many Indo girls will be available easily to you.

Now, if you really want to get into some serious affair like marriage, then you have to be very careful, coz then you cannot leave the Indo girl just like that. In that ways the Indonesian laws are very strict towards expatriate. You need to pay huge penalty in case your marriage fall apart. There are cases that the Indo girls have shown fake documents and proof of marriages, where they have actually asked for huge money before leaving males. Also there are rumors that girls use black magic and some stuff like that. So at times this fun thing actually turn out to be lot more tricky and serious affair.

This blog of mine has nothing to say against anyone in the whole world or for any particular culture or society or individual in specific. These are my general observations that I came across, some of them are heard stories and some are just rumors you can say. which will be heard by everyone who so ever visit this country.
My only intention is to provide you with the does and don't's about this country. Any its in every country of the world. Some have add on benefits and some have their own gray areas to explore and evolve. Once again its a lovely and peaceful country to explore, live and enjoy best time of your life.

Personally I love this place that's why I am here.l
